We are proud to state that for the second year in succesion our Contract Packing and warehousing operation in Brighouse, West Yorkshire, has achieved a Grade A against the BRC Global Standard for Food Safety. Our Brighouse factory provides an extensive contract packing facility for open foods, packaged foods and food gifts. Our site is also bonded for the packing of alcohol products and has seperate areas for the contract packing of pharmaceuticals and non-foods. The achievement of Grade A status shows our continued commitment to our clients in ensuring Morton's produce safe, legal and quality products. Our site is also recognised and accredited as a contract packing facility by a number of major retailers for the packing of own label products including Tesco, Sainsbury's, Marks and Spencer and BHS. We continue to develop our operating processes and procedures in line with the latest industry quality and safety standards.
Morton Group has made additional capital investment in its contract packing facility at Brighouse. The Brighouse site has recently installed an additional fully automatic shrink sleeve line. This is in response to the increased demand and volume of product being packed in the Brighouse factory in the format of retail shelf ready trays. Following our annual audit against the BRC Food Standard we were delighted to achieve a Grade A status at Morton's contract packing, warehousing and distribution facility in Brighouse, West yorkshire. This excellent result demonstrates our commitment to delivering first class Quality standards within our business.
Across all sites Morton's have committed as part of the group Corporate Social Responsibility Policy to reduce land fill waste and promote recycling. The company has introduced a "green initiative" which has proved very succesful in reducing waste sent to landfill. The "green initiative" has been introduced in the contract packing factories at Brighouse, Barnsley and Elland where waste materials are now seperated into polythene, hard plastics, cardboard, paper, wood and metal. Duncan Scott, Factory Operations Manager, stated that "everyone has to do their bit in relation to our environment. We are really committed to playing our part and working to achieve the business objectives to reduce landfill and recycle our factory waste. The initiatives already introduced have meant we have made a great start and reduced waste in April&May 2008 by over 60% against last year and we'll continue to look for ways to build on this".

During April 2008 our commitment to quality and people delvelopment within our Brighouse contract packing site has meant a business commitment to ensure every factory operative has now completed a qualification in Basic Food Hygiene. The Brighouse site holds BRC Food accreditation with the main factory area manufacturing and packing various packaged food items and also has a controlled open food handling packing area. Vicky Cunningham , Group HR Director, stated that "we are pleased that our staff have participated and all qualified in their Basic Food Hygiene Training as this key area is obviously vital to ensuring we deliver the best quality standards possible. If we train our staff to increase understanding and the reasoning behind why we have to follow our cleaning, hygiene and other food handling procedures then we know we will maintain the highest standards."
An additional fully automatic shrink wrapping line has been installed at our Brighouse site's contract packing facility. This new machinery complements our current equipment and means we can offer greater capacity for fully automatic shrink wrapping at Brighouse. The machines typically are employed in wrapping confectionary items, food gift packs, presentation retail packs and stationery products. We are delighted that 11 members of our team including warehouse operatives and team leaders at our Brighouse and Barnsley sites have successfully completed their NVQ level 2 qualifications. As a business we are committed to staff development and this is an excellent achievement and a credit to our employees who have successfully qualified in Warehousing, Supervisor and Administration NVQs.
